pro bono vet
gordy and i were at the local off-leash dog park last week on my day off. it was mid-morning and we were the only ones there initially. he swam after his balls in the frigid puget sound waters for a while. then as he wandered the park, a couple more dogs and their owners appeared. gordon met the dogs, and i heard the second one growl at gordy (i wasn't looking and was walking away at the time) and gordy immediately came running to me. didn't think anything of it and we continued to play ball in the water. 5 minutes later i noticed a huge 3x3cm deep laceration on his hindquarters. i knew where it had come from at once, and immediately went to look for the other dog and his owner, both of whom were long gone (fortunate for them, as i was in a dog-strangling, old-man face punching kind of mood). i took gordy home, gave him a bath, and cleaned the wound best i could. a couple hours later the wound was still oozing blood, so i drove to my new clinic, and procured some suturing materials. numbed up gordy's wound and gave him 3 stitches, all of which he tolerated surprisingly well. not my best work but it'll do. called myself in a prescription for keflex to prevent a wound infection.
2 days prior, gordy and i were walking in the neighborhood of some friends in seattle. as we passed a bush, gordon leaped under the hedge and i heard a growl. i yanked on gordon's leash and noticed he was bleeding from a lip wound. i had seen that cat in this yard many times before, but didn't notice it this time as we were walking by.
"once bitten, twice shy" certainly doesn't apply to gordy.

Well, he did kill a cat. Maybe next time you're down here (or we're up there) we won't bring Jefe/Gordy?
